Tamsyn P. Km 4,2 Federico Basadre A. In the study area marked seasonal fluctuations dictate food availability, water quality and disease outbreak. Determining the causal linkages between ecosystem variables, resource use and health required a variety of forms of inquiry at multiple scales with local participation. Landscape spatial mapping of resource use demonstrated the diversity of the ecological resources upon which communities depend.
Much is at stake as global society approaches the final decade before the Sustainable Development Goals are fixed to be realized in The international community has set high ambitions for global prosperity, the protection of our biological diversity and land resources, and limiting global warming. Progress towards these ambitions is within our grasp — but a fundamental change in how natural resources are used around the world is necessary to succeed. Since the s, global population has doubled and global Gross Domestic Product has grown fourfold. These trends have required large amounts of natural resources to fuel economic development and the attendant improvements in human well-being this has brought across the globe. The analysis and modelling presented in this report are a first attempt to understand the impacts of our growing resource use, and to develop coherent scenario projections for resource efficiency and sustainable production and consumption that decouple economic growth from environmental degradation. A Historical Trends scenario shows that the current trajectory of natural resource use and management is unsustainable, while a Towards Sustainability scenario shows that implementing resource efficiency and sustainable consumption and production policies promotes stronger economic growth, improves well-being, helps to support more equal distribution of income and reduces resource use across countries.

Natural resource management NRM is the management of natural resources such as land , water , soil , plants and animals , with a particular focus on how management affects the quality of life for both present and future generations stewardship. Natural resource management deals with managing the way in which people and natural landscapes interact. It brings together natural heritage management, land use planning, water management, bio-diversity conservation , and the future sustainability of industries like agriculture , mining , tourism , fisheries and forestry. It recognises that people and their livelihoods rely on the health and productivity of our landscapes, and their actions as stewards of the land play a critical role in maintaining this health and productivity.
Natural resources are those that the planet offers without the need for human intervention. They are essential our survival, but if they are consumed at a faster rate than their natural regeneration, as is currently the case, they can be exhausted. Then, we review the consequences and possible solutions to this problem. Human beings are depleting the planet's natural resources. There are two types of natural resources: renewable and non-renewable.
Welcome to the Conserving Biodiversity on Military Lands website, a resource for military natural resources managers throughout the United States. Here you will find: A thorough introduction to understanding biodiversity and how it applies to the military mission, including the scientific, legal, policy, and natural resources management contexts. Practical advice from 17 case studies about biodiversity conservation, written by your peers at military installations. You can browse and read the book's contents online by clicking on the chapter links, or download each chapter as a PDF file to print out. Additional Biodiversity Outreach Tools, as produced by the DoD Legacy Resource Management Program in , provide information about natural resources and biodiversity on military lands for installation leaders, civilian leaders, and the military community.
